Langsdale Library is committed to providing the full range of services to students registered in web-based courses as it is to those visiting the campus. Below is information on how to obtain materials and assistance.
All services may be reached by going to langsdale.ubalt.edu and following the directions below.
Reference help is available either electronically or by telephone during the hours the library is open. Hours can be obtained by going to the Library’s home page, langsdale.ubalt.edu, and clicking on the Info & Services button. E-mail messages are checked every hour and we make every effort to respond within 2 hours to any reference question. If your telephone call cannot be answered immediately, leave a message and we will return your call within one hour. When submitting an e-mail request it is important that you try to be as precise as possible in your request.
To get reference help by e-mail go to the library’s home page and click on the Research Aids button and then use the link to Email Reference. Fill out the reference assistance request form and click on the "Submit Query" button. Be sure to provide all the information required on the form. You can also contact the Reference Department directly at email@example.com.

This department can assist you in getting a library bar code and obtaining material from the collection. Contact them by going to the Library’s home page and clicking on the Circulation link under the Info & Services button or e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Interlibrary Loan Office (ILL):
This office can assist you in accessing books and articles in our library or other libraries. Material can be delivered directly to a location designated by you. To contact the ILL office call (410) 837-4283 or e-mail email@example.com.
The Library provides several ways to get material to you. Please remember that you can contact any department or office above for more assistance.
Using the databases:
The Library currently subscribes to over 70 electronic databases, providing access to thousands of journals, magazines, newspapers, and other full-text material. To access these databases from off campus you must have a Langsdale Library bar code. This 14-digit number needs to be updated each semester. If you do not have a bar code or are being denied access to the databases because of a bar code problem, contact the Circulation Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (410) 837-4260.
To access the catalog go to the Library’s home page and click on Databases.
You can access the Library’s and University System of Maryland catalogs by clicking on the Library Catalog button.
To access magazines, journals, and databases from off campus you must use Researchport
. This can be done by clicking on Researchport from the Electronic Databases page, entering your last name and bar code, and clicking on the "log in" button. You will then see a list of subject categories or you can use the Databases by Name search.
If you need assistance in using the databases you can contact the Reference Department (email@example.com; (410) 837-4274). You can also go to the Library’s home page and click on the Research Help button. Clicking on Find a guide... will allow you to examine a variety of guides designed to assist you in doing research.
Getting books or articles NOT in the full-text databases:
The Library supplies materials to off-site patrons using e-mail, fax, U.S. mail, and UPS delivery. Patrons must identify themselves as distance, off-site students by supplying the name of the Web Program, fax number, e-mail address, home address, telephone number, and Library ID number. If you are not already registered with Langsdale Library, you must do so to use this service. Please go to patron registration to register. Material is supplied for course use only and all copyright laws and guidelines apply.
Ordering: Books and articles may be requested through Interlibrary Loan using the ILL request link in the Find It menu or by completing the electronic ILL form located on the Library web page at langsdale.ubalt.edu under the Info & Services button. Requests should be made as early as possible as the delivery time will vary according to type of request, lender, and delivery method used.
Articles: The Library will provide copies of articles from journals that we own. We will fax, e-mail, or mail to the address supplied on the request. If we need to secure the article from another library we will forward the material by the best means available. Articles need not be returned.
Books: Off-site patrons may use Interlibrary Loan to request books owned by the Library or others. In the absence of a reciprocal agreement with the lending library to ship directly to you, the book will be forwarded from Langsdale via UPS Call Back. Books MUST be returned by the due date supplied to allow enough time for return to the lending library. The requestor is responsible for any overdue or lost book fees. Reserve DVDs: Remote access to DVDs on reserve for classes is available. See Instructions for Slingbox under the Course Reserves heading.
