Course Reserves For Faculty

This guide will discuss course reserves and provide instructions for adding course reserves to Canvas.

Course Reserves Overview

Faculty may place materials on reserve for students using the Ares platform, which can be access in Sakai under the "Course Reserves" tab. To add this tab to Sakai, and to request items, follow the instructions here: Instructions for Requesting Reserve Items.

Important reminders:

  • Please allow 1-2 business days for processing. At the start of the semester, processing may take up to 2 weeks.
  • Materials borrowed from other libraries cannot be placed on course reserves.
  • Personal copies of books or other items maybe be placed on reserve. Understand that barcode and reserve stickers will be added to these items. You can bring these books to the Information Desk on the first floor of the library with a note for Erin Toepfner, and let library staff know they should be placed on reserve.
  • Materials will be removed from reserve at the end of each semester. Nothing carries over, so you must resubmit requests for each semester.
  • Request streaming media using the Streaming Media Form.
  • Films we currently have stored in Panopto will stream for 7 days during the requested dates. These films will available in a subfolder located under the "Panopto" tab in Canvas.
  • Any films we need to license elsewhere will be accessed through the provided link, and will be subject to restrictions based on the streaming service.
