Extensive treatment of the countries of modern Africa, that is, post-independence. Topics treated for each country include geography, history, government, peoples and cultures.

This series is comprised of bound volumes, each on a different nation. Titles will appear as Italy: A country study. Each book will have chapters on the nation's history, society, economy, government and politics, and national security. Country studies are not available for all ountries. Includes information on countries in North and South America as well as the Caribbean. Each country's section contains general, political, economic and historical overviews, business guides and business directories. Formerly the Latin America & Caribbean Review.

(1970-1999). Demographic yearbook/Annuaire demographique. New York: United Nations. (XHA 17 .D4) Print yearbooks available from 1990; yearbooks from 1970 to 1996 available in microfiche.

Contains statistics on population, vital statistics (natality, mortality, marriage and divorce), demographic and social characteristics, and geographical, educational, and economic characteristics. Publication lags by a few years; e.g., latest statistics presented in "1993 Yearbook" generally date back to 1991.

(1994 to present). Direction of trade statistics quarterly. Washington, DC: International Monetary Fund. (XHF 1016.D53) Langsdale's holdings go back to 1980 under previous title cumulated by Direction of trade statistics yearbook.

Arranged alphabetically by name of country. You can look up a specific country and find (in millions of dollars) the amount of exports and imports to and from other nations. Monthly data lag a few months behind the issue publication date. The same type of data appear in the Yearbook but is annual and covers the previous seven years (i.e. the 1994 Yearbook has data from 1993 back to 1987).

(1975-1994). Index to international statistics. Washington: Congressional Information Service. Monthly with quarterly and annual cumulations. (XZ 7552 .I53)

Includes a variety of statistics collected by intergovernmental organizations (i.e. UN, EC, OAS). Information is available on nearly all subjects, by region, continent or country.

(2001). International marketing data and statistics Chicago: Euromonitor International. (XHA 42 .I56 [vol.])

Country information is presented through a multitude of tables grouped within 25 major subject areas. The initial section of this work is a directory of the institutions consulted to compile this statistical yearbook -- a valuable list for advanced research.

(1975-2004). OECD economic outlook. Paris: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. (XHC 59 .O7 [vol.])

Contains good tables and graphs, and country information on the 24 member countries of the OECD.

(1998-2000). Statistical yearbook/Annuaire statistique. New York: United Nations. (XHA 12.5 .U57 [yr.])

This source is similar to the Statistical Abstract of the U.S. but instead gives the user statistical data for most countries of the world. Publication lags by a few years (1992 Yearbook was published in 1994.) Trade, economics, and demographics are featured.

STAT-USA [on campus] [help]
Coverage: current. Stat-USA is a gateway to databases that assemble current information on business, economics, and trade from diverse government sources. It is divided into two parts: the State of the Nation section covers domestic statistics and Globus/NTDB cover information relating to US foreign trade. Most of the information deals with marketing and investing opportunities in foreign countries. Stat-USA is a subscription service available to the Langsdale Library as part of the government depository program.

This series is issued by the U.S. Dept. of State. Each country report is from five to ten pages in length.
