Company Research / Researching Company Finances

I. Resources available in Langsdale Library

A. Reports on microfiche.
Housed on the second floor is a microfiche collection of selected documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission back to 1978. These include annual reports to shareholders(AR), annual financial statements filed with the SEC(10-K) and quarterly financial reports(10-Q). These are filed by fiche number. Ask at the reference desk for an index.

B. Mergent Manuals former Moody's Manuals. New York: Moody's Investors Service.
This set of eight manuals, plus index and updates, reports current financial and other information on publicly-held companies, banks, utilities, and federal, state or local governments.

II. Electronic Resources available From Langsdale.

To update information contained in annual reports, or to find information on private companies check the recent periodical literature: business magazines and newspapers. Use the Business/Economics section of our electronic databases menu to access ABI/Inform Global, LexisNexis Academic, which includes a company profile section and SEC filings as well as access to international publications, or Business and Company Resource Center. This section also includes access to Mergent Online, an electronic version of the Moody's manuals. Use Researchport for remote access to these resources. You will need a Library patron id to access these indexes remotely.
See our How To Guides for information on our electronic resources and remote access.

C. Hoover's Online. Hoover's publishes profiles of many companies and the web site provides samples of these profiles. Langsdale also has several of the handbooks. Langsdale also has a subscription to Hoover's Company Records linked from the Business/Economics section of the electronic databases menu.
