Meet Our New Staff

The Circulation Department welcomes its newest staff member Timothy Balcer. Timothy earned his bachelors degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University with a major in philosophy. Timothy has a variety of interests: he plays guitar and listens to all kinds of music, follows the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Wizards, and he loves to watch NASCAR. His favorite authors are Stephen King and Tom Clancy. Tim feels that “24” is the best show on TV and taking a quote from a college friend says it “should be required viewing by law.”

Jeffrey Hutson became Langsdale’s new Head of Reference in July, after serving as a reference librarian at Langsdale for more than one year. Originally from Wisconsin, his first job was as a counselor at Wisconsin Lion’s Camp for Handicapped Children. He enjoys listening to A Prairie Home Companion and watching The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Boston Legal and House. His favorite authors are Jon Hassler and Raymond Brown and he is currently reading Solace of Fierce Landscapes. He enjoys collecting modern advertising postcards, hiking, travel and biking and eating pasta, sushi and Cheetos. Having spent most of his life in the Midwest, Jeffrey likes Baltimore’s diversity of people, its wonderful architecture and history, and its proximity to other major metropolitan areas on the East Coast. His favorite quote: "It is better to aim high and miss than to aim low and hit."

Work-study history student Mark Sokolik joined the Circulation team this summer. Upon graduation, he plans to go to Law School and hopes to attend either the University of Maryland, Colorado or Temple University. He loves the outdoors, including hiking, mountain biking and swimming.

Cynthia Crouse joins the Circulation department as a student assistant. She is completing her master's in Negotiation and Conflict Management this fall. Crouse worked for 18 years before deciding to return to school; ten of those years were spent working at the Maryland Nurses Credentialing Center. She feels that coming to UB has been a wonderful break from working. Although going to school has presented its own challenges, she feels that those challenges have been welcome, allowing her to grow and expand her horizons.

Adrian Korz has been working in Langsdale's Technical Services department as a library assistant for several months now. He earned several degrees from Tulane, including bachelor's degrees in molecular biology, history, environmental biology and classical archaeology, and a master's in toxicology. Mr. Korz got an early introduction to working in libraries while still in high school, his first job being at the National Library of Medicine. His hobbies include hiking, biking and sleeping; he also enjoys reading history and fiction. He adds that he particularly likes the University of Baltimore's close-knit community and enjoys Baltimore's many ethnic neighborhoods, tight communities, architecture and history.
