New Databases for the New (School) Year

Over the summer, Langsdale librarians have been evaluating the research
resources available for you and have added several exciting new products
to help you conduct research in a variety of areas:
General Interest
- Facts on File World News Digest brings together complete content from the
digest and a live newsfeed from Reuters® to answer questions about events, people, issues, facts, and figures from 1940 to the present.
- Historical Newspapers(Proquest)
- The New York Times (1851-2003) offers full-page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue. Coverage: Sept. 18, 1851
to Dec. 31, 2003
- The Wall Street Journal (1889-1989) offers full-page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue. Coverage: July 8, 1889
to Dec 31, 1989
- The Washington Post (1877-1990) offers full-page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue. Coverage: Dec 12, 1877
to Dec 31, 1990
- Opposing Viewpoints covers social issues, such as
gun control, genetic engineering, censorship, endangered species, and terrorism. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center brings together viewpoint articles, contextual topic overviews, government and organizational
statistics, biographies of social activists, court cases, profiles of government agencies and special interest groups
and newspaper and magazines articles, as well as links to more than 1,800 reviewed and subject-indexed
Web sites. It takes its name from the Opposing Viewpoints print series published by Greenhaven
Press.
Investment research
- Morningstar: Find a stock or fund to meet your needs, research current or prospective holdings or see how your investments work together. Morningstar's data reports cover more than 20,000 securities. Coverage: Historical data back to 1996.
Humanities
- Humanities International Complete is an essential collection for comprehensive coverage of the humanities with full-text content. Produced by Whitston
Publishing this database includes more than 2,000 titles and two million records, much of which is not found in other databases. The database includes full text for more than 770 journals.
Psychology:
Mental Measurements Yearbook, produced by the Buros
Institute at the University of Nebraska, provides users with a
comprehensive guide to more than 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced professionals, the
MMY series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. First published by Oscar K. Buros, the series allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing.
MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.
- Tests in Print is produced by the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements at the University of Nebraska and serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. TIP provides vital information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s).
Science
- Science Resource Center is an in-depth, curriculum-oriented science database that provides a one-stop resource for all science-related research needs. This resource reflects curriculum trends and focuses on key concepts taught in school classrooms including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, math, environmental science, life science, medicine, space science, computer science, technology, history of science, science and society, science as inquiry, science-related biographies and more.
