Copyright and ReservesCirculation/Reserves staff are ready to help faculty keep their electronic reserve readings (ERES) compliant with copyright provisions. Readings found in a journal to which Langsdale subscribes (in either paper or electronic format) and books in Langsdale’s collection may be used indefinitely under the provisions of fair use. However, items from journals and books not owned by the library usually require a copyright fee before they can be used in a class. More than one semester's use of such a reading by the same instructor for the same course would require action to make that use copyright compliant. To allow us to keep readings copyright compliant, we need two things from you when you request that a reading be placed on ERES. First provide a full bibliographic citation; the reading cannot be posted without it. Second, provide the number of students in the class(es). Both are essential for obtaining permission for a reading’s continued use. New reserve request forms will be issued to each department. Provision of complete information will insure faster processing of your request. We look forward to hearing from you at the earliest convenient date. You may arrange a meeting by calling 410.837.4260 or e-mailing reserves@ubalt.edu. |
