Spring 2006

From the Director's Desk

Welcome to the spring 2006 Langsdale Link. We hope you had a happy holiday break and that the spring semester is rewarding and productive.

We’re happy to say that we are now out from behind the barrier that fenced us off from Maryland Avenue for nine months! It should be much easier now to visit us. We have also completed a major re-roofing project for the library which we hope will eliminate some of the periodic leaks we have experienced in the past few years. I would like to extend a special thank-you to the University’s administration for providing us with the resources to complete this project.

In this issue you will find reports on upcoming meetings, an article on the volunteer activities of one staff member, an update on our information literacy initiatives and information on the library’s Special Collections department's involvement with the Community Studies & Civic Engagement program.

In May and June library staff will participate in the Maryland Library Association conference in Ocean City, Md. and in the American Library Association conference in New Orleans, La. We are proud that our staff are active members of our professional associations.

As always, we would like to hear your comments on the Langsdale Link and welcome your suggestions for future topics and improvements. Please send any comments to Michael Shochet at mshochet@ubalt.edu or 410.837.4277.

Sincerely,

Steve LaBash, Director
Langsdale Library
