Blogs, RSS and Langsdale
by Michael Shochet
The 2004 Merriam-Webster word of the year: blog.
The 2005 Oxford American Dictionary word of the year: podcasting.
You have probably heard or seen a number of terms like "blogs," "podcasting" and "RSS feeds" bandied about in the press and on the Internet recently. Sometimes they are associated with politics or tied to a tragic news story.
But these things have a place in the University of Baltimore. Both Langsdale Library and the Law Library maintain blogs with accompanying "feeds." Some classes at UB use blogs and podcasts to provide information and to act as additional forums for communication and discussion.
If all of this sounds foreign to you, attend Langsdale's newest workshop: WebFeeds and Podcasts and Blogs, Oh My! In just two hours, you will learn how to use feedreaders to keep abreast of current topics and even how to begin blogging yourself.
Class times:
Fri, Feb 24: 2:00 - 4:00
Tues, Feb 28: 6:00 - 8:00
Price: Free!
To register for either of these clases, as well as other classes offered at Langsdale, visit our instruction web site. You can also register by sending an email to the reference department at langref@ubalt.edu.
