The Langsdale Renovation Project
by Lucy Holman-Rector
When you return to campus this semester, you'll see a new and improved Langsdale Library. In December and January, we completely vacated the first and second floors to paint, lay new carpeting and redesign our services on those two floors.
We are happy to have Reference Services, our collection of reference materials and the reference desk itself (librarian included), now located on the first floor. So you will no longer have to trek up a flight of stairs to have your questions answered. Circulation services, videos and DVDs will also remain on the first floor. In addition, we are installing 24 new computer stations, which will be located along the windows on the Maryland Avenue side of the first floor and which will make it more convenient for students to stop by to print a paper or complete a project.
The second floor now has a new look too. Three areas of comfortable seating provide students, staff and faculty with ideal spots to read current newspapers, kept nearby. We have also created four new areas for group study, where students can work in teams of two to five at computer stations, while our electronic classroom features 24 individual computer stations.
The first phase of renovation
was completed last semester, when we added a new classroom to the fourth floor to help meet increased demand for library- related instruction sessions.
