Langsdale's New Look
by Lauren Sellmayer
As the new semester begins, the staff of Langsdale Library would like to invite everyone to come sneak a peek at the library’s new look. Over the past several months, Langsdale has slowly moved furniture, collections and even an entire department.
Fourth Floor Renovation
by Tom Hollowak
At long last, the expansion of Special Collections Department on the library’s fourth floor has begun.
On Jan. 2, workmen closed off the east side of the floor by erecting a wall and doors. The library shelving and study carrels were removed, and the archival shelving in Room 202 was transferred to the center of the floor.
Once this shelving was moved, materials from other shelves were transferred to these shelves, and the shelves on which the materials had originally resided was also removed. New archival shelving has been ordered; when it arrives in four to six weeks, it will be installed and other materials being stored around the perimeter walls or stacked in Room 408 and the former “Jazz Room” will be relocated to the new shelving.
The entire renovation should be complete by the end of the semester.
If you are looking for a place to relax between classes, visit the second floor. Grab a newspaper or a magazine and unwind on some of the library’s new lounge furniture. This floor houses all periodicals (magazines, newspapers and journals) and government documents as well as two group-study rooms and the computer lab.
The Special Collections/Archives Department has expanded throughout the fourth floor. Room 401 is still available for classes, but the rest of the fourth floor is devoted to the special collections and is no longer available as a study area. All books and study carrels previously on the fourth floor have been relocated to the third floor. There are carrels available on the second floor, too.
The first floor is still the best place to seek help from a librarian at the Reference Desk. Items on reserve are available at the Circulation Desk, and our Reference Collection is along the floor’s back wall. This floor also features a computer area and a video-viewing area; the library just received new flat-screen TVs for viewing DVDs and VHS tapes.
Come take a look!
