Langsdale Link

Fall 2005

From the Director’s Desk

Welcome to the fall 2005 issue of the Langsdale Link. Not only will you see big changes on the campus, such as the progress on our new Student Center, but you will see notable changes in the library as well. We have a number of new programs and services that will assist you with academic and research projects. Also, neither our services nor hours will be affected by the ongoing construction on Maryland Avenue in front of the library.

Our new services and programs include an online, real-time, chat reference that will allow you to “talk” to a reference librarian; new books, journals and databases; and innovative approaches to instruction and information literacy.

In this issue of the Link, you will also also get a chance to meet some new staff members and to say good-bye to those who are moving on.

The library continues to expand its DVD and video collection for both academic and personal use. Be sure to check out the article on some of our new DVDs and visit us to browse our expanding collection.

Finally, I would like to take special note of the retirement of Jim Foster, our former head of circulation. Jim served the University for 30 years as a teacher and as a librarian. During that time, his first commitment was to provide the highest level of service to the University community and to the Library. While we will miss him we know that his replacement, Steven Thorpe, will provide the same high level of service.

As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. You can send them directly to me or you can give them to any staff member. We look forward to working with you to make this semester an exciting, enjoyable and productive experience.
