From the Director’s Desk
I want to welcome you to the second issue of the Langsdale Link.
We received a number of very positive comments on our first issue and
hope we continue to improve!
This issue has two articles that I think are of special interest. The
first is on a Conference
on Information Literacy, sponsored jointly by the Langsdale Library
and the University’s Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee. At
a time when information is increasing exponentially, it becomes vital
that researchers know how to find, evaluate and use it. Information literacy
is one method of being sure researchers develop these skills.
If you are a faculty or staff member interested in how information literacy
can benefit you and your students, please join us for this free conference.
Information on registration and the speakers can be found by clicking
on the link above or by contacting Tami Smith at 410.837.5072 or tsmith@ubalt.edu.
If you would more details on information literacy, visit the Association
of College & Research Libraries’ Information Literacy
Competency Standards for Higher Education.
The second is the announcement that by the end of the spring semester,
the Langsdale Library will be wireless-accessible throughout the building.
The completion of wireless was made possible by the special efforts of
Provost Wim Wiewel, the staff of the University’s Office of Technology
Services, and the dedication of the library staff. It is part of the ongoing
effort on the part of the University to provide the best technology and
services to you.
Finally, if you have comments on this issue or suggestions for future
articles, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
