Progress Continues

Welcome to Langsdale! Here is what you would have seen if you had entered the library this afternoon
Under construction

Yes, we still have some construction to do, but if you turned your head to the left, you may have noticed a brand new reference desk, complete with a reference librarian...

...and some chairs waiting around for new furniture.

Meanwhile, we are trying to set up the 2nd floor for group study along with some (relatively) comfortable seating.

So even though we are open again, we still have more work to do to get the 1st and 2nd floors back into proper shape. But you can still come in to check out books and videos, use the computer lab on the 2nd floor and see the new carpet and new chairs.

Jan 4

The new carpet is pretty much installed on the 2nd floor. There is just some cleaning up and painting left before we can start moving some stuff back in. The painting should be done on the 1st floor, and the carpet has started to be laid.

Hey, haven't we done this before?

Deja Vu
Here is an announcement for the Dec 6, 1971 Student Press about Langsdale moving its reference collection to the 1st floor. It must have migrated to the 2nd floor over at some point in the last 36 years, but now we are moving it back.

I hope the green carpet and the orange walls were not used at the same time.

Some reasons why we had to close Langsdale

1. Some books are hard to reach

2. The security system for the books was removed.

Wires, Wires everywhere

It seems as if people had put wiring in a lot of unexpected places in order to try to extend the capacity of the library. In room 200, 2 holes were drilled in the floor to allow for acess to the LAN and for electricity. We need to make sure the new carpet does not cover these holes.

Computer Lab

Also on the 2nd floor, one of the computer tables had wiring for the LAN and electricity put in underneath the top of the table. Someone ran wires along the ceiling and then dropped them through a conduit to the table. They even had to drill a hole in the table to accomadate the conduit. Of course, this now makes moving the table off of the floor a bit more complicated.

Emptying Out

Here is what our 1st and 2nd floors look like without soo many books and furniture.

Getting Ready

With new carpeting and paint on the 2nd floor scheduled to be installed over winter break, we need to get everything thing off of the first and second floor. Langsdale will be closed to the public Dec 18 and 19 to give us time to move everything, but we have have started moving many books and computers onto other floors.
