What we did in March
Carol A. Vaeth, ILL Coordinator, was one of a five member panel presenting on the University System of Maryland's consortial implementation of ILLiad at the OCLC ILLiad International Conference in Dublin, OH March 16. ILLiad is an automated resource sharing management software for Interlibrary Loan functions that we hope to have in place at every library in the USM by July 2006.
Ted Kruse’s article titled “Who are the People in Your Neighborhood,” will be reprinted the Church Leader's Answer Book. Tyndale House will publish the book in 2007. The article shows local parish leaders how to use U.S. Census tract and block data for planning and evaluation of programs.
Michael Shochet was one of 2 featured speakers at the "Dive Into Blogging" program sposored by the Maryland Chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries on March 10. Steve Labash and Tami Smith also attended the program which discussed how blogs can be used to promote library services and issues.
Steven Thorpe and Michael Shochet attended the Computers in Libraries conference on March 24-26. Session topics included the use of social software tools such as blogs and wikis, online searching, RFID tags and much more.
And coming up in April...
Thomas Hollowak is the programming chair for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference that will be held in Baltimore April 20-22.
Lucy Holman and Steve Labash will attend the Congress of Academic Library Directors (CALD) of Maryland annual meeting on April 28.
Jerrey Hutson will be attending the Off-Campus Library Services Conference on April 26-28.
