What we did in May

Langsdale Staff were well-represented at the annual Maryland Library Association meeting held in Ocean City, Maryland May 4-5. Carol Vaeth received and award for Paraprofessional of the Year and Lucy Holman-Rector received one for Librarian of the Year. Tammy Taylor began her term as Vice President/President Elect of the Associates, Paraprofessionals & Library Support Staff (APLSS) division. Tami Smith and Steve Labash were also in attendance.

Steve LaBash was elected Vice President/President-Elect of the Congress of Academic Library Directors.  CALD is the umbrella organization for public and private academic libraries in Maryland.

Tami Smith attended the Spring Selective Depository Meeting at Johns Hopkins University on May 12. Issues on how to make people more aware of federal documents and primary sources were discussed, as well as the new GPO catalog.

Tami Smith and History professor Betsy Nix won a Teaching and Learning Initiative Grant from the Office of the Provost. The funds will be used to compensate the two this summer as they work together to implement a new course design for HIST 300 (Research Methods).

Thomas Arendall-Salvetti attended the LOEX Conference at College Park, MD on May 5-6. Conference programs covered various aspects of organizing, promoting, and maintaining library instruction programs, as well as ways to improve information literacy instruction sessions. (LOEX is the nation’s premier library instruction conference.)

 

And coming up in June...

Lucy Holman will attend the Frye Leadership Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.

Tami Smith with attend the Baltimore Area Libraries' Group meeting on June 16.

Lucy Holman will attend the Maryland Assocation of Research Libraries meeting on June 19.
