Historical Note:  
The Maryland ACLU was founded March 8, 1931 and currently has over 14,000 members in Maryland.  It is a nonprofit foundation involved in litigation and public education.

Custodial History:  
The collection was donated to the University of Baltimore by John Roemer, former ACLU Executive Director, on November 19, 1981.  There have been additional accessions of records from the organization since that time.
