The collection consists of 63 letters written by Bachman, an American enlisted in the Canadian Forces during the First World War. Letters are from Canada, Great Britain and Iraq where he participated in the British Mesopotamia Campaign.
Frederick "Fritz" Bachman was medically unfit to serve with the American forces so he joined the Royal Expeditionary Forces in 1917.
When Bachman died, he left his letters to Dr. Eric Nordling of Bryson City, North Carolina. Dr. and Mrs. Eric Nordling donated the collection to the University of Baltimore in August 2001.
