Scope and Contents:
Fifty taped interviews with specialists on various aspects of Chesapeake Bay history from the colonial period to present day. The interviews were conducted by Fred Hopkins and Joe Goldenberg. The recordings have not been transcribed.
Dr. Joe Goldenberg of the Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of History directed this NEH grant funded project from 1979-1980. The purpose of the project was to make history about the Chesapeake Bay available to schools. The interview tapes were used in Virginia schools for approximately five years; in Maryland, selected interviews were broadcast on WBJC radio for approximately one month. The original recordings are stored at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a complete second set exists at the Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons, Maryland.
The collection was donated to the University of Baltimore by Fred Hopkins in 1994.
