Scope and Contents:  
The collection is combination of two distinct research projects: the NORTH AVENUE 100 project conducted in the mid-1980s under the direction of Dr. Elaine Eff, and University of Baltimore undergraduate coursework in community studies lead by Dr. Jessica I. Elfenbein in the mid-2000s.

Historical Note:  
The NORTH AVENUE 100 was a project whose partners included the Neighborhood Progress Administration, Baltimore Traditions, the Maryland Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and private funders.

Custodial History:  
Series I and III were donated to Jessica Elfenbein by Elaine Eff in 2005.  The entire collection was transferred to Special Collections by Jessica Elfenbein in 2006.

Arrangement:

The collection has been organized into 3 series:

Series I. Penn-North Oral Histories
Contains 17 transcripts of oral history interviews conducted in 1986 in the Penn-North neighborhood of Baltimore City. These interviews were originally part of the NORTH AVENUE 100 project. 

Series II. Research Papers
Contains 9 undergraduate student papers written in the fall semester of 2005 for CSCE 301: Community Studies. 

Series III. Photographs (Links to PDF)
Contains 159 color positive slides collected by the NORTH AVENUE 100 project. The majority of the slides were taken in 1985 and 1986. Copies of historic photographs are interspersed throughout this series and are undated.
