Library Profile: 2015

Our users:

  • visited Langsdale 104,000 times, averaging 5xx visitors on a semester weekday
  • used Langsdale’s computers 39,890  times* (including use of 513 loanable laptops and tablets) while 13,378 used their own laptops in the building
  • used Langsdale 18,225 times for studying (non-computing areas)
  • used Langsdale 12,170 times for group study
  • made 127,000 visits to Langsdale’s website—an average of almost 400 visits per day—and viewed 310,000 pages, including 22,284 for Special Collections. Almost 22% of the traffic came through the library’s presence in Sakai; approx. 2% from our mobile site
  • conducted  992,516 searches in Langsdale’s 83 subscription databases
  • accessed  almost 2.6 digital archival files from UB’s Special Collections and viewed 74,701 archival photographs from UB’s Flickr site; this reflects more than a tripling of view and 1814 download of video footage from the Internet Archive
  • borrowed and renewed almost 372,000 UB and USM materials






  • accessed 66,6440,103 electronic reserves, viewed 5,534 streaming DVDs, and checked out 1,971 reserve books, for a total of 67,608 reserve items accessed;
  • requested 5,004 items through intercampus borrowing, including 2,127 through the expedited courier service, and 4,170 items through Interlibrary loan;
  • asked 31,368 reference questions (which includes questions asked of Circulation and Special Collections).

Our faculty and staff:

  • taught 139 course-related instruction sessions with 2265 students, and increase of 29% from FY 2014
  • taught 10 sections of INFO 110 and 44 WRIT 300 sections
  • converted almost 50,500  items to RFID
  • withdrew 12,946 volumes (8612 titles) of pre-2011 federal documents
  • converted 67 periodical subscriptions from print to online access
